FAQs

Why do you smoke your dog treats?

Smoking is used to preserve our protein-rich treats for longer periods of time, and to enhance their overall flavour and aroma.

Where do you get your meat and bones from?

All Dear Dog Treats products are sourced and processed locally. We work with only the best Alberta farmers, ranchers and butchers.

Why organ meat treats?

Organ meats are rich with iron and protein, and with nutrients not found in meat and bones, such as vitamin B12 and folate (a B vitamin).

Are chicken feet good for dogs?

Yes! Chicken feet are full of collagen, cartilage, calcium and protein. They can help keep your dog’s teeth clean and are easily absorbed by the body. They promote healthy bones and joints.

Do your dog bones splinter?

While cooking bones for long periods of time can make them more brittle, Dear Dog Treats uses a combination of cold and hot smoke to both kill off harmful bacteria and allow our bones to preserve. Each bone is smoked at 165 degrees Fahrenheit and finished with up to 72 hours of cold smoke to provide a unique product of malleable texture, which chews a lot like a raw bone – without the dangerous splinters.

Are your dog treats gluten free?

Yes they are. In fact, all fresh meat, including beef, goat, lamb, turkey and chicken, is gluten-free. Animals convert food proteins into animal proteins by breaking down their structure during digestion (amino acids are separated and then repackaged during metabolism). Meat – regardless of what the animal is fed – will not contain any gluten.

What are the health benefits of consuming bone marrow?

Bone marrow is full of amazing vitamins and minerals aiding in joint health, and is full of essential omega -3, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, selenium, magnesium and manganese. Bone marrow encourages a healthy digestive tract through sealing liquids to help absorption and fight inflammation.

How long are your products good for?

If stored in a cool dry place, Dear Dog Treats products will last for up to 6 months (and we guarantee that!) If you experience any problems or concerns with our food, please take a photo of the product and send it to us with a brief description. We will be happy to send you a replacement product or refund your money depending on the circumstances.
